Two victories helped in the RHS Lady Tigers, fight to stay in the District 19-3A playoff race. RHS is tied with Rogers for fourth place with its 6-6 record.

On Friday, the Lady Tigers traveled to McGregor and swept the Lady Bulldogs 25-20, 25-15, 25-14 for the second time.

“I was really pleased with varsity against McGregor, because there were a few times we got several points behind and they came back and took the wins,” Coach Jennifer Keen said.

Rockdale was led by Kaylee Criswell and Lyndsey Kolar at the net, with 14 and 12 kills respectively.

“Ryanne Young had an outstanding night against McGregor. She was connecting really well with Reese Weise at the net and she did a good job for us defensively as well,” Keen said.

Weise led Rockdale with 27 assists and also had nine digs. Defensive standouts for the Lady Tigers were Payton Miller and Kylie Eubanks with 13 and 11 digs each.

In an emotion-packed match, Rockdale beat their cross county rival for the second time this season earlier in the week. On Tuesday, Oct. 9, the Lady Tigers defeated rival Cameron Yoe at the Tiger Gymnasium in a close match 22-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-23.

“Varsity started out slow and I was a little worried, but then they finally woke up in the first game,” Keen said. “We had given away too much of a lead to come back. However, they took care of things in games 2-4.”

Strong net play again from Criswell and Kolar helped Rockdale get the win, along with defensive play from Eubanks, Miller, Young, Reyna Gonzalez, and Emily Depine. Weise also contributed more than a third of the Lady Tigers total points with 34 assists.

Rockdale will face off against first place Little River-Academy on Tuesday night after it’s three-game winning streak.

The Lady Tigers lost on the road to the Lady Bees 22-25, 13-25, 17-25 in their first match. Little River-Academy has one district game loss. Results for the contest will be in next week’s issue of the Rock-dale Reporter.

Rockdale will play their second to last district match of the season on Friday against second place Troy in Rockdale. They lost to Troy in the first meetup. Varsity begins at 4:30, and both junior varsity games will be played after.

Junior Varsity

McGregor 2, JV1

25-18, 14-25, 21-25

“One of our weaknesses as a program is fighting for balls and not giving up,” Keen said. “McGregor goes for everything. If it is a shanked ball, you can bet someone on their team, at all levels, will still make that ball playable, and that is the way that you win. We were too satisfied to watch balls hit the floor and not move our feet, which is something we constantly preach to the girls every single day at every single practice. Defense wins, and unfortunately, we just did not make the adjustments that we needed to make to take the match.”

JV2 2, McGregor 1

22-25, 25-16, 25-10

“These girls really worked hard for these three matches. One of our setters, who is a huge factor to the program, Justiss Mayberry, injured her ankle in game one and these girls came back and fought for the match,” Keen said. “Hannah Lehmkuhl had a great all around game and Jessica Flores and Priscilla Kleckar did a great job defensively for us as well. I was really proud of them all for adjusting to the change when we had to pull Justiss and the way they worked as a team and fought for their win.”

JV1 2, Cameron 1

8-25, 25-15, 25-12

“These girls started off slow. I mean, it was like watching snails on the floor,” Keen said. “We then had a little talk with them and they came out ready to play.

pep Haven Jimenez played with JV1 and had an outstanding game. Her defense is outstanding and her effort to get balls is what we need more of. Averie Hobbs, Mariana Casarez, and Jimenez also had great nights at the net. In games two and three, our middles Kylee Moore and Allyson Towns really impressed at the net.”

Cameron 2, JV2 0

17-25, 22-25

“The girls just did not pass well,” Keen said. “We had several missed serves and were not getting passes to the setter.”
