STATE TRACK 2018

AUSTIN—Performing for the final time in Rock-dale blue and gold, Tyler Lehmkuhl just missed out on bringing home a medal and placed fourth in the discus at the Class 3A UIL state track meet Friday afternoon in front of 27,249 fans.

It’s the highest finish by a Tiger athlete in the event since Michael Menley captured a silver in the event in 2004.

In the first round of the finals, the Tiger senior uncorked a throw of 160-feet, 9 inches—11 feet under his career-best of 171-8 set at the regional meet—which was the second-best qualifying throw coming into the state meet.

The 6-foot-3 Lehmkuhl scratched on three of his six throws and had a 146-11 on his first toss and 137-2 marking on his second.

Cason Brown of Schulenburg maintained his status as the top competitor and hurled a 183-5 measurement to easily take the gold medal by 10-feet over Mark Ramon of Poth. Brown had the top throw coming in at 178-11.

Silas Robinson of Yoakum—who will play football at Arkansas in the fall—was third with a throw of 162-8, just two feet ahead of Lehmkuhl.

Lehmkuhl was the only athlete representing Rock-dale at the state track meet.
