200-plus expected to be in Rockdale for youth tourney

Four Rockdale Little League baseball teams are headed to district competition, after having competed in the Rockdale Youth Baseball League for the last three months.

The Rockdale Rangers with a 7-3 record took second place in the RYBL T-ball division last week. This insured the team a spot in the district tournament. The first place team Milano Eagles with a 8-2 record will also be in the tournament, which will be held in Rockdale July

“The boys are excited and glad to be advancing,” said Chris Flores, coach of the Rockdale Rangers. “ I’m curious to see how they line up against the other teams.”

In coach pitch or 8 and under play, the Rockdale Astros will head to Cameron on July 1 for the district tournament, along with Rockdale Rangers, who placed second.

“We’re going to be seeing teams we haven’t seen before,” said Bobby Joe Tindle, coach of the Rockdale Astros. “We plan on going to state this year.”

In other league play, Rockdale teams competed in 14U, 12U. 10U divisions. Rockdale Astros and Rangers were in the sophomore division, Rockdale Astros-South and Rockdale Rangers-South were in the freshman division and Rockdale Astros and Rangers south were in the midget division.

Closing ceremonies for the RYBL will be 6 p.m., June 20 at the Rockdale Little League Baseball Field. Activities include awarding trophies to the first and second place teams, presenting volunteer of the year honors and giving away fundraiser ticket awards.

DISTRICT TOURNAMENT – RYBL will host its first ever 6U (T-ball) District Tournament, which will bring nine teams from all over Texas to Rockdale the week of July 1-6, said Tindle, a RYBL president.

There will be no games on July 4.

The league is in need of volunteers for concession stands help, field maintenance work for the 200 plus people the tournament will bring into Rockdale in July, according to RYBL officials.

Monetary donations are always accepted to help with financing the tournament.

Entrance fee to the tournament will be $5 for adults and $3 for children.
