W EST—A f ter hitting the qualifying total for his respective weight class, Rockdale High School senior Kev in Liu wi l l return to the Texas High School State Powerlifting Championships for the second straight season. His classmate Bryce Flowers will also compete in Abilene after winning his division and shattering three school records in the process.
Liu placed third overall in the 148-pound weight class with a squat of 475, a bench press of 300, and a dead lift of 450 for a meet total of 1,225. Flowers, who broke three different RHS and regional records, won the 181-pound weight class with a squat of 635, bench press of 360 and a dead lift of 505 for a total of 1,500 pounds.
Other top performers for the Blue-and-Gold were fellow senior Miles Grear, who missed out on qualifying for state but placed third in his group with a squat of 575, a 350 on the bench and a dead lift of 455 for a total adding up to 1,380.
Ryan Luckey, Daniel Gardiner and Tristin Rupe also competed in West over the weekend.
STATE— Liu and Flowers head to Abilene’s Taylor County Expo Center on Friday, March 25, for a chance at a powerlifting state title.
GIRLS— While Tiger lif ters have to play the waiting game before competing, Lady Tigers Shelly Segovia and Elizabeth Perry head north this weekend to lift at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting State Championships.
The state meet takes place at Frisco’s Comerica Center this coming Thursday. Segovia and Perry both compete at 1:30 p.m.
