Last week, RHS powerlifting coach Ryan Montalvo announced via Facebook that Tiger lifters Gavin Aguilar and Kevin Liu had officially qualified for the state powerlifting meet later this month.
Aguilar won the 242-pound division while his teammate Liu finished second in the 148 after coming into the meet as the sixth-ranked lifter in his respective weight class.
The two Rockdale High School students have a chance to win a state championship at Abilene’s Taylor County Expo Center, where the state meet will take place March 25-26.
THORNDALE—THS junior Landri Martinka competed at the girls state powerlifting meet in Corpus Christi on Wednesday after press time. This was the third straight year that Martinka has qualified for state.
Bulldog senior Hayden Kylberg was the lone male powerlifter from THS to qualify for state. He was the 2021 state champion for his weight class and will also compete in Abilene next weekend.
