Rockdale High School graduate Torry Locklin saw his first action as a Jayhawk on Saturday, April 13, throwing 11 yards on five passes and scored once on a 38-yard touchdown run during the University of Kansas inner-squad scrimmage.
“He’s a dual threat guy,” starting wide recever Andrew Parchment told KUSports earlier this week. “He’s a leader too.
“He just came in during January with me and he’s already yelling at guys, telling them what to do.”
Locklin has been on the University of Kansas campus since January and the redshirt freshman is already beginning to make a name for himself as a leader.
He was a big part of the Tiger’s 2017 Class 3A-Division I state championship. Locklin led the Tigers in rushing and passing with 2,491 yards on 314 running attempts and went 169 for 309 with 2,560 yards and 27 touchdowns. He committed to the Jayhawks in February of 2018 but was asked by the staff of former Jay-hawk head coach David Beaty to wait until January 2019 to come to campus.
Although the focus in Lawrence is the battle for the starting quarterback position between Thomas McVittie and Carter Stanley, Locklin the 6’2”, 210 pound player has impressed KU coaches and players.
Kansas head football coach Les Miles also complimented Locklin admidst questions McVittie-Stanley battle, saying he had a “nice day” after Saturday’s scrimmage.
