RHS golfers opened up the season with a two day tourney in Navasota where 2019 state qualifiers Ross Loth placed fifth out of 42 boys and Whitley Boyd placed 12th out of 32 girls.
“I thought they played well,” said coach Ethan Noel. “Playing that second day is hard early in the season and we will have to work at being better on day two.
“But for our first tournament, it was good.”
Loth shot an 83 on Friday with an 85 on Saturday.
Junior Brayden Burns was not too far behind him, shooting 87-96-183 and sophomore Jake Hasselbach shot a 91-95.
Loth, Burns and Hasselbach are the only returning members from last year’s regional qualifying team.
Ryan Blair came in at under 100 with a 95 on his first day, but didn’t play on Saturday.
Joey Ramos finished Friday with a 122 and improved to a 121 the day after. Ashton McEntarffer shot a 125-126-251.
LADY TIGERS–
Rockdale brought two Lady Tigers to Navasota due to most of their members playing in varsity basketball or soccer games.
Senior Whitley Boyd shot a 95-94-189 and Maddy Moody shot a 121 on the first day but didn’t compete on Saturday.
Noel also noted that while it was a little bit chilly, the weather was great and didn’t effect their play.
THIS WEEK–Both teams play this upcoming Tuesday at the Teravista Golf Club in Round Rock.
Both Rockdale golf teams play at the Rockdale Country Club on Wednesday, Feb. 28, during the work day.
