Ivanna Luna’s sophomore season came to an end on Saturday morning finishing 66th out of 150 runners with a time of 13:05.87 at the Class 3A cross country state championship in Round Rock.
“It was a great experience,” said Cheryl Meuth, Rockdale High School cross country coach. “She went out a little ahead of her normal pace, but it was definitely something she can use to better herself next year.
“She still placed in the top third at state and I couldn’t be more proud of her season.”
Luna had a hot sophomore year finishing fourth at the district meet on Monday, Oct. 13, in Cameron and placing sevneth overall at the Region III meet in Huntsville two weeks later on Monday, Oct. 27.
Luna also had second place finishes at the season opening Lexington meet and Caldwell Invitational before finishing third at Cameron in Rockdale’s final meet before district.
DRUMM–Thorndale’s Mason Drumm ended his cross country career in the race prior to Luna’s when he finished 106th with a time of 18:41 on the 5,000 meter course at Old Settlers Park on Saturday.
According to family, Drumm had been sick in the week leading up to the race.
The Thorndale senior was the District 25-2A champion and placed 14th overall at the Region IV meet in Corpus Christi on Monday, Oct. 27. He qualified since six of the runners in front of him were attached to a state bound team.
Drumm enjoyed success earlier in the year winning the Lexington meet, finishing third at Moody and taking a bronze medal in Cameron before their district competition.
