The Tigers are looking to end their two-game losing streak as they begin district play against the McGregor Bulldogs on Friday.

“Phase one of the season is over with and we’re back to being 0-0 with district play starting,” RHS Head Coach Jacob Campsey said. “McGregor has some big dudes and the quarterback is elite. They have a good blend of athleticism and size that we’ll have to match up with.”

ROCKDALE—RHS is coming off of a tough loss against the 4A Division II sixth-ranked Bellville Brahmas, 42-14. The score did not tell the full story of the game as many of the Tiger starters sat out in the first half. The second-string team put some good drives together but were unable to translate the drives into points. The loss caused the Tigers to fall from No. 8 to being unranked in the texasfootball.com 3A Division I rankings. Despite some players sitting, the Rockdale offense still earned nearly 300 total yards against the Brahmas. While the RHS defense was solid against the pass, they will have to improve their rush defense after giving up 331 rushing yards to the Brahmas.

Players to watch: Star running back Cam’ron Valdez earned 105 total yards on only seven carries and one catch. Quarterback Kobe Mitchell earned 63 yards passing, 36 yards rushing and a touchdown in the game. Both players participated in only the second half. The RHS wide receiver duo of Kesean Raven and Anthony Dansby are threats from the slot and outside positions. Linebacker Christian Briggs will be a key component for the Tigers after totaling 13 tackles and one pass breakup in Friday’s contest.

McGREGOR—After beginning the season 0-2, the Bulldogs are coming in confident with a twogame win streak. The Bulldogs are coming off a dominant performance last Friday in which they beat the Oakridge Owls 41-23. The Bulldogs offense has been electric this season averaging 43 points per game. The defense has been shaky allowing 37 points per game.

Players to watch: Quarterback VeAndre McDaniel is a dynamic playmaker for the Bulldogs. The former first team all-district quarterback can get the job done with his arms and legs. Running back Chad Lorenz will also be a key player for the Bulldogs after rushing for 200 yards against Oakridge last Friday.
