Milano’s season came to an end against Burton in three straight sets 25-18, 25-17, 25-16 on Tuesday night in Somerville.

They went up against a Lady Panther team that went 13-1 in District 26-2A and made it to the fourth of the playoffs in 2018.

McKenna Robertson was the leader at the net for MHS with 11 kills and four blocks. Danni Shaw was the assist leader with 12 assists, three digs and one ace.

Bethanie Compton was the top defender with 14 digs and also had three assists.

Abby Miller had seven kills, seven digs and one block. Abby Olson had four digs.

Angela Z eig had one dig and Kaitlyn Telg had two kills and two digs.

Burton will move on to area to play Weimar, the runner-up from District 27-2A this weekend, a team that beat Woodsboro, the third place team from District 28-2A 25-12, 25-7, 25-15.

SEASON – Coming out of a District 25-2A that boasted three teams that were consistently ranked by the Tex as G i rls C oaches A s s oci ati on throughout the season, getting past district was a huge accomplishment for the Lady Eagles, who made their 19th consecutive trip to the post-season this year.

“I was excited for this team to earn the honor of making the playoffs,” said Wendy King, MHS volleyball coach and athletic director. “I t was not an automatic thing and we had to beat a good Mumford team that beat us twice in the pre-season.”

This was the final game for seniors Shaw, Olson, Z eig, Miller,nTelg and Compton.

With seven on King’s team this year, Robertson is the only returning member for the Lady Eagles in the 2020 season. Robertson led MHS in kills and blocks this season.
