Last Tuesday, Milano’s Lady Eagle softball team opened up district with a comeback victory on the road over Holland 19-15.

The maroon-and-gold trailed 13-9 in the top of the seventh when Milano filled the bases with no outs and got hits from Karyme Santana, Toni Meyer, Zoe Clore. Laynie Rose had two hits in the inning and the Lady Eagles scored 10 runs to seal a victory.

Meyer got the win from the circle with 15 strikeouts and 12 hits allowed in seven innings.

The Lady Eagles went into the contest with only one game played before that.

“It is crazy just having one game before (opening district),” said coach Amanda Keen. “Not ideal, but with everything else going on in the world right now we just have to make the best of it and control what we can control.”

With a majority of freshman and sophomores making up her starting lineup, she also said this team will be a fun one to watch for the next several years.
