On Friday afternoon at the Milano High School library, MHS seniors Jenna Lewis and Laynie Bastow signed their letters of intent to play college softball. Lewis will continue her career at Kilgore College (Kilgore). Her teammate Laynie Bastow will play at Vernon College (Vernon).

“Both of these girls have worked so hard and made so many sacrifices to get to this point,” said Amanda Keen, Milano High School head softball coach. “It’s great to see this pay off for them.”

“I’m insanely excited,” Bastow said, “I get to live my dream, and play at the college level.”

“I’m really happy,” Lewis said, as she fought tears of joy. “I don’t quite know what to say.”

Bastow and Lewis are both four-year starters for the Lady Eagles. The girls rotated as pitchers for the MHS softball team, and Bastow also played third base. In 2018, Bastow had a batting average of .382, and an on-base percentage (OBP) of .475 with 26 hits and 21 runs batted in (RBI). Lewis’s batting average was .355 and her OBP was .390 with 27 hits and 19 RBIs.
