The Milano Eagle track team won their third straight UIL Region IV Class 2A championship at Javelina Stadium in Kingsville on Friday and Saturday with six first place finishes and two second place finishes.
They were led by Devonte Jones who won the 300-meter hurdles, the 100-meter dash, the long jump and was a part of the gold medal 4x200-meter relay team with Gus Downey, Christian Thurman and Drew Demeritt.
Jones kicked off the meet qualifying in the long jump with a personal record of 23-00. In the 100-meter dash, he and Thurman had the two fastest times with 10.69 and 11.00. Jones won the 300-meter hurdles afterwards with a time 39.40. In the 4x200-meter relay, the boys finished second in the prelims and beat Shiner with a time of 1:30.
Parker Jones, who competed in three races, also won big at the regional meet with first place finishes in the mile and 3200-meter run. He set personal best records in all races with a 9:51.06 in the 3200-meter run, a 4:37.03 in the mile and a 1:59.62 in the 800-meter run, where he finished second.
Other competitors were Chris Sootoo and Kathen Funburg. The Lady Eagles who competed in the regional meet were: Emma Batten, Sterling Robertson, Jaden Carmichael and Abby Miller.
THORNDALE – Corey Preusse and Michael Herzog will represent the Bulldogs at the state track meet in the discus, shot put and triple jump.
Preusse won the discus with a throw of 178-08.00, breaking the Region IV Class 2A record. This will be his third straight trip to state after placing fifth in 2018. He will also compete in the shot put after placing second with a throw of 51-10.00.

46-00 to beat out Normangee’s Izaha Jones who finished with a 45.05.75. Herzog also barely missed out qualifying in the long jump finishing third with a 21-08.25.
LADY BULLDOGS – Hannah Laurence will run in the 100-meter hurdles at the state track meet after finishing with a time of 15.65 to beat out Yorktown’s Kailey Sinast by six-hundredths of a second.
Other competitors from Thorndale were Mason Drumm, Corbin Preusse, Landri Leschber, Elise Biar, Ash Kiesling, Landry Laywell and Lauren Newton.
Both schools will compete at the UIL Class 2A state track and field championship on Saturday, May 11, held at Mike A. Meyers Stadium in Austin.
