In a near repeat of last year’s matchup, the Thorn-dale Lady Bulldogs defeated the Milano Lady Eagles 13-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-20 on Saturday at the Geneva Paceley Gym in Milano.
The two teams battled it out last year and Thorndale took the game in four sets to become co-district champions.
On Saturday, Milano got off to a strong start on their home court winning the first set 25-13. The Lady Bulldogs answered back with a 25-15 victory in the second set, and outlasted Milano in the third and fourth sets with 25-20 wins.
In their victory, the Lady Bulldogs were led by juniors Landri Leschber and Maddie Smith. Smith had nine kills and Leschber had eight. Assist leaders for Thorndale were seniors Landry Laywell and Madison Flores, each with 12 assists.
For Milano, the Robertson sisters were a threat at the net. Senior Sterling Robertson had 12 kills, and freshman McKenna Robertson had 10. Assist leaders for the Lady Eagles were senior Laynie Bastow with 14, and junior Danni Shaw with 13.

Both Milano and Thorn-dale swept their opponents earlier in the week.
Thorndale-The Lady Bulldogs beat the Buckholts Lady Badgers 25-8, 25-13, 25-10 on Tuesday. Thorn-dale was lead by Leschber and Smith at the net with 13 and 11 kills. Smith aced her serve eight times on the Lady Badger defense. Lay-well had 18 assists.
The Lady Bulldogs are on the road against the Mumford Lady Mustangs. Thorn-dale is currently 5-1 in district 25-2A.
Milano-On Tuesday, Sept. 18, the Lady Eagles defeated the Lady Lions in Granger, 26-24, 25-23, 25-22. There were a lot of strong performances from the Lady Eagles in their fourth victory of the season. The Robertson sisters combined for 21 kills at the net. Shaw and Bastow were assist leaders for the Lady Eagles with 12 and 9. Bastow and senior Abby Miller both had 11 and 7 digs.
Both teams play their next match on Saturday with 1 p.m. starting times.
The Lady Eagles play their next match in Holland against the Lady Hornets. Milano currently holds a 4-2 record in district 25-2A and 16-10 overall.
