After putting up 436 passing yards for University of Mary Hardin-Baylor’s offense Friday evening, Milano grad Kyle King is officially a national champion.

The Crusaders took down North Central College 57-24 in Canton, Ohio, at the Stagg Bowl, which is the Division III football title game.

King says he’s happy to be a champ, but also ready to get some rest.

“It just feels surreal,” he said. “I’m just so grateful.

“But in all honesty, I’m glad to be home and done for awhile so I can hunt and get to mess with the cows again.”

The former Eagle ends the year with 2,682 total passing yards and 351 46 total touchdowns.

King also rushed for 351 yards and only threw two interceptions all season.

His rise to champion started earlier this year when he competed for the Cru’s starting quarterback position during a shortened five-game season in the spring.

King got the gig after racking up 613 passing yards and 12 total touchdowns including six in a 65-20 victory over Louisiana College.

A 2018 graduate of Milano High School, he is the son of Alvie and Wendy King.
