Milano is within striking distance of a second place finish in District 25-2A. The Lady Eagles played Thorndale on Tuesday for a chance to tie the Lady Bulldogs for second place.
Thorndale won the first matchup in district play 3-1. The rivalry game was played after press time and results will be in the next issue of the Rockdale Reporter.
Last week, the Lady Eagles defeated Granger in four sets 21-25, 25-12, 25-21, 25-16 at home on Saturday afternoon.
The lights came on for the Lady Eagles in the second set when they more than doubled the Lady Lions and scored 25-12 after losing the first set 21-25. Milano stayed ahead of Granger in the next two sets to get their ninth victory in district 25-2A.
Coach Wendy King’s team was led by the Robertson sisters at the net. McKenna had 14 kills, and her older sister Sterling had 10. The Lady Eagles had great all around play from Abby Olson, who had 15 digs and 13 assists. Laynie Bastow was also key in their ball movement with 18 assists.
Milano defeated the Mumford Lady Mustangs for the second time in district play in four sets, 22-25, 25-21, 25-13, 25-23 on Tuesday, Oct. 9. The Robertson sisters led the Lady Eagles at the net. Sterling had 17 kills, and McKenna had 12. Assist leaders for Milano were Bastow with 23, and Danni Shaw with 12.
