The Milano Eagles’ lack of depth came back to haunt them as they were defeated by the Iola Bulldogs 51-13.
The Eagles are now 2-5 on the season and 1-3 in district play.
“I am happy that we continued to play hard,” MHS Head Coach Chad Lagrone said. “Due to injuries, we only had 14 guys playing.”
The Bulldogs got off to a hot start as Coy Elliot scored a touchdown on a nine-yard run in the first quarter. Case Creamer snagged a pass from Brian Crosby for the two-point conversion. The Bulldogs would strike again in the quarter with Creamer shredding the Eagle defense on a 32-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion was no good. The Bulldogs led 14-0 at the end of the fi r s t q u a r t e r.
In the second quarter, Creamer would make his present felt again with touchdown runs of 73 yards and five yards. Creamer converted the two-point conversions on both touchdowns. Elliot closed out the second quarter with a 22-yard touchdown run. The twopoint conversion pass was no good making the score 36-0 at the half.
In the third quarter, the Eagles got on the board as Jayce Todd dialed up a 10-yard pass to Nick Grimes for a touchdown. The point-after attempt was no good.
The Bulldogs offense continued their dominance with Creamer scoring on a 60-yard touchdown run. Later in the quarter, Creamer would score his fifth touchdown of the day by punching in a one-yard run. The score was 51-6 after three quarters.
In the fourth quarter, Eagles would score the final touchdown of the day as Todd connected with Hector Munoz on a 25-yard pass.
Todd went 10 of 11 for 143 yards and two touchdowns. Grimes led the Eagles in rushing with 12 carries for eight yards, while Weston Avrett led the team in receiving with three catches for 66 yards.
On defense, Ethan Gordon led the Eagles in tackles with seven.
Due to missing a game early in the season because of COVID-19, The Eagles will face the Burton Panthers today and face the Sommerville Yeguas on Monday at Sommerivlle.
