The Milano Eagles took their open week to get back to fundamentals.
“During the bye week, we worked on taking care of the basic things,” said Chad Lagrone, Milano High School head football coach. “We also worked on our conditioning.”
This week, the Eagles will celebrate homecoming and prepare for their neighbor from across the Robertson County line, Hearne.
“This will be the first time we play them,” Lagrone said. “We are excited for the opportunity.”
The Hearne Eagles moved down a classification after the spring biennial UIL realignment.
Hearne went undefeated in District 12-3A Division II to clinch the district title with a 26-19 upset of Buffalo before dominating Rio Vista in bi-district.
The Hearne Eagles were ranked eighth by Texas Football Magazine in its statewide preseaon rankings for 2A Division I and have already begun to make their mark.
They had a good showing in their district debut against a dominant Holland team, which they lost to on the road 40-32, but clobbered Thrall 54-6 at home.
In his second year as head coach, Ricky Sargent scheduled a competitive pre-district schedule matching up the Eagles against teams like Franklin, which was ranked sixth by Texas Football.
Hearne has center/ defensive tackle Victor Killebrew, starting linebacker Patrick Foley and sophomore quarterback Micah Smith returning.
The Milano Eagles take on Hearne Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Milano.
