Last week, Milano’s Kyle King announced that he will continue his football career in Germany, where he will join the Saarland Hurricanes.

King, a MHS Class of 2018 graduate, ended his career with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor last month as the school’s all-time leading passer with 6,971 yards and 82 career touchdowns. With no collegiate eligibility left, he was looking for a new team to join and received interest from the German Football League franchise.

Although he has hopes of joining an NFL roster one day, making sure that he had somewhere to play this next season was his main priority.

“I just felt at home in Germany,” he told Waco’s Fox44 last week. “And I didn’t want to be unrealistic with myself and hold out for an opportunity (with the NFL)...and me winding up not getting to play this year.”

The former Eagle and Crusader is up for the challenge and excited to prove himself on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. He also said that he had to fight his way to UMHB coming from a Class 2A high school and will likely have to do the same when making the jump from a Division III collegiate program to anywhere professionally. “This situation happened and I’ve been slept on my whole life,” he also told Fox44. “Even outside of high school.” He also said he hopes to pave the way for many players like him.

“I hope I’m laying the foundation for not just kids from Milano,” he said. “But kids from this area o r s maller t owns t o k now t hat i t’s p ossible to continue to reach and go accomplish their dreams.”

He is the son of Wendy and Alvie King of Milano.
