Several members of the Lady Eagles Volleyball team were named to the 2A District 25 All-District Teams.
McKenna Robertson was named to the all-district first team on Thursday.
“McKenna was the only returning player from the varsity,” MHS Head Coach and Athletic Director Wendy King said. “She faced a challenge playing with all the new faces. She led our team in kills and blocks and played solid on the back row also.”
Peyton Robertson was named second team all-district.
“Peyton is a freshman and took on the challenge of setting in a 5-1 system,” King said. “It was all brand new for her and having the pressure of setting every rotation is not easy. I felt like she learned a lot and improved each game.”
Karyme Santana was given honorable mention.
“Karyme is solid and works hard,” King said. “She brings positive energy on the court.”
Montgomery Popham, Toni Meyer, Santana, McKenna Robertson and Peyton Robertson were all selected to the academic all-district team.
While the Lady Eagles season got off to a rocky start, their season was considered successful as they qualified for the 2A Region II playoffs.
“This season was unlike any other I have experienced in 29 years,” King said. “It was a rocky start when we had to quarantine for the first two weeks due to COVID concerns. That is generally the time when the most actual practice happens. That time is key, and we missed that. Also, per UIL guidelines, there was no tournament season. Those games are important for the development of a team in the pre-season. That being said, we were fortunate and blessed to be able to play and everyone faced the same challenges so no complaints here.”
The young ladies will look to continue to bring the program to new heights next season.
