Milano went 4-3 this past weekend playing seven games in three days.
The Lady Eagles started Thursday off hot with wins over Austin-Travis, Buckholts and Holland at the Rockdale tournament. On Friday they lost in a tiebreaker match to Bremond 25-23, 15-25, 25-14, 14-25, 14-16.
On Saturday, MHS lost to Taylor in three sets, before taking down Travis for the second time and falling to Somerville.
“I was really pleased with how we played Friday and Saturday morning,” said Wendy King, MHS head volleyball coach and athletic director. “We ran out of gas in our last match but but that was our seventh match in three days.
“But our defense and our offensive execution is looking much better.”
This week—MHS played Brazos Christian School at home after press time and plays in the Bruceville-Eddy tournament on Friday and Saturday.
THORNDALE—The Thorndale Lady Bulldogs finished their weekend at the Little River-Academy tournament as champions of the silver bracket defeating Bremond, Live Oak and rival Thrall on Saturday.
On Thursday, THS got off to a rough start against tougher competition. They lost to Rogers, a perennial playoff squad in Class 3A, then fell to Lorena in a three-set tiebreaker. Lorena, is ranked 13th in Class 4A. The Bulldogs ended the day with their first win of the tourney over Bremond.
“Overall, we did well,” said Angel Raines, THS head volleyball coach. “But we stil have a lot of things to clean up.
“I think we’re starting to find a groove some-what. We are still changing our rotation to find one that fits, but these girls are rolling with it and doing their best.
This week—After three and a half weeks of games and practices, Thorndale played their first home game of the season on Tuesday night against Class 5A Elgin.
THS plays their second home game on Friday night against the Lady Eagles of Lexington.
First set is scheduled for 6 p.m.
RANKING—As of Monday, Aug. 26, the Thorndale Lady Bulldogs are ranked 22nd amongst the Class 1A and 2A schools.
Rival Thrall is ranked 11 and fellow District 27-2A school Granger is 19th.
