Even with a 7-6 record, the Lady Eagles are the fourth place and the final playoff team out of District 25-2A.
Milano’s six losses have been to Thorndale, Thrall and Granger. All three of those teams spent parts of this season ranked in the top 25 of Class 2A by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.
Against their other four district opponents they are undefeated with five of those being shutouts.
Milano plays their final district game on Saturday afternoon in Bartlett, a team they beat 25-13, 25-17, 25-23 on the first day of October.
Game time is at 2 p.m.
THORNDALE–The Lady Eagles lost in Tuesday’s senior night game to the district champion Thorndale Lady Bulldogs 25-14, 25-20, 26-24.
Sophomore McKenna Robertson led MHS with 11 kills, senior Danni Shaw was the top passer with nine assists and Bethanie Compton was also instrumental to Milano’s offense with eight assists.
GRANGER–On Saturday afternoon, Milano lost 25-22, 21-25, 20-25, 24-26 to Granger, the third place team in District 25-2A.
Robertson had 17 kills and Abby Miller had 16 kills. Shaw led MHS in passes with 17 assists and Compton had 12. Abby Olson had 12 digs.
MUMFORD–Last Tuesday, the Lady Eagles took down Mumford in a neck-and-neck tiebreaker 25-14, 32-34, 25-14, 23-25, 15-4.
Robertson had 31 kills and Miller had 17. Shaw led the team with 30 assists and Compton was key on both ends with 14 assists and 12 digs. Olson had 14 digs.
Milano needed a win in order to move closer to clinching the final playoff spot. If the Lady Eagles would’ve lost, the two teams would’ve probably had to meet up after the close of district for a play-in game for the final place.
