Rockdale eight-year old Canaan Miles competed at AAU Junior Oympics this past week in Greensboro, N.C., where he finished 69th out of the 97 runners in the eight-and-under 400-meter run last Tuesday with a time of 1:19.65.
“His fastest time would have put him at 36th,” said Charles Miles, coach and father of Canaan. “Maybe it was the 19-hour drive or running at the state meet a few days before that wore him out.

Miles is an incoming third grader at Rockdale Intermediate School and a member of 100 Miles and Running, a youth track and field club based out of Rockdale.
In addition to running at the Amateur Athletic Union’s Junior Olympics, Miles ran at the Summer Games of Texas last week in College Station with some of the top youth athletes in the state of Texas. He competed in the 1oo and 200-meter dash as well as the 400-meter run where he made it to the finals last Sunday and placed sixth overall.
