The Milano High School athletic program named its top athletes virtually on Tuesday, May 19.
The posting by MHS Athletic Director Wendy King was published to Facebook as a replacement of an in-person sports banquet typically held every year in May. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, MHS was unable to host an in-person banquet this year. Abbigail Miller and Danny Cloud were given the most athletic girl and boy award respectively.
Miller was a four-sport athlete for the Eagles. She participated in cross country, volleyball, basketball and track. Cloud was two-sport star at Milano. He was a member of the baseball and football teams.
“We are very proud of Abby and Danny and wish them all the best life has to offer as they enter this next chapter of their lives,” said King.
Bethanie Compton received the Charlie Martin Memorial Inspiration Award. Martin was a long-time
Martin was a long-time MHS basketball coach, MISD superintendent and the first mayor of Milano.
This award was presented to the athlete who most inspires their teammates with their competitive spirit and dedication, according to officials.
Jeremyah Tafao was given the Brandon Chapman Memorial Award.
Chapman was an MHS senior who passed way while swimming in 2000. He was a multi-sport athlete and active at the high school.
This award was presented to the football and track athlete who embodies the spirit of Chapman through consistent display of effort, determination, competitiveness, leadership, courage and teamwork, regardless of the situation, according to officials.
“These are big shoes to fill and we are proud to award both Bethanie and Jeremyah this year,” King said about the honors.
