With football season right around the corner, Rockdale’s 2017 run to a state championship is still garnering attention.

Rockdale head coach Jeff Miller was selected the coach of the year by Lone Star Gridiron.

Miller was one of three nominees for the honor, which included Class 3A.

The Tigers made an improbable run to the title, whipping five ranked teams in the playoffs on the way to the championship, defeating Brock 45-29 in the finale.

Miller concluded his 12th season at Rockdale with the school’s first state championship since 1976, by defeating Brock in the Class 3A title game.

Miller, 50, has been a head coach for 18 years and has won 126 games overall, including 91 at Rockdale, where he is the all-time leader in victories.
