The Rockdale Tigers have added a couple of old friends to their new schedule that Jeff Miller has finalized.
The defending Class 3A state champions will host Giddings in the 2018 season opener and then travel to Caldwell the next week.
Rockdale has been included in a district with both Giddings (2010-11) and Caldwell (last time in 2013).
Rockdale and Caldwell have competed in the same district for 44 years and played 61 times.
The two schools discontinued the series in 2015 when Caldwell moved up to Class 4A.
“I’m very excited to be playing Caldwell and Giddings again,” Miller said. “It was always great competition when we played chairs.
The Tigers’ open date couldn’t come at a more fortuitous time, right before District 10-3A play opens.
Rockdale opens league play by hosting brand new Manor New Tech, which is playing a varsity schedule for the fi rst time.
The Battle of the Bell will be staged in Cameron for the second consecutive year, on Oct. 26. them in the past.”
The Tigers will continue their series with Lexington and will host the Eagles again this season.
Rockdale will close out the pre-district schedule by traveling to Austin Hyde Park.
That will be an interesting road trip because Hyde Park’s field has limited seating. Bring your lawn
The Tigers will be trying to keep The Bell for the third straight year for the first time since 1968.
Rockdale’s longest road trip will come Oct. 12 at Lago Vista for a district tilt in the heart of the hill country.
The Tigers will scrimmage Groesbeck Aug. 17, and then travel to Mexia on Aug. 24 for their fi nal tuneup.
