Wendell Mitchell says Gig ‘em. The former Rock-dale star sifted through a large number of offers and decided to stay close to home and play for Texas A&M.

Mitchell made the announcement via social media, simply saying “Gig’em, I’m backkkk!”

Mitchell received offers from several top notch programs, including Georgetown, Oregon, Cincinnati, Maryland, North Carolina St., Wichita St and Memphis.

A&M (22-13) is coming off a stellar season in which it made it to the third round of the NCAA Tournament, including a dominating victory over No. 2 seed North Carolina.

The Aggies were eliminated by fi nalist Michigan and will have to replace four starters.

The former Rockdale star took full advantage of his transfer from Baylor to Trinity Valley this season where he was named the No. 1 junior college player in the nation by Juco Recruiting.com after leading the Cardinals to the national junior college tournament in Hutchison, Kansas.

After transferring from Baylor after a lack of suffi - cient playing time, Mitchell returned to being the shining star he was in high school where he was named the Class 3A player of the year with some impressive results.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pound combination guard lit the Juco world up, averaging 22 points, 6.5 assists and 5.9 rebounds a game, while shooting an impressive 48.9 percent from the fi eld and—always an excellent free throw shooter—83.8 percent from the stripe.

Trinity Valley was eliminated from the tournament in the second round by Eastern Florida State College in a heartbreaking 85-80 setback in a contest in which they held a halftime lead. Mitchell certainly did his part, with 28 points, six treys, fi ve boards, four assists and two steals.

For his effort—including 24 points in the Cardinals 100-54 opening round victory over Baltimore City Community College—Mitchell was named to the all-tournament team

Trinity Valley fi nished 30-6 on the year and was ranked No. 5 in the nation heading into the tournament and were certainly one of the favorites.

Because of Mitchell’s success, he basically went through the recruiting process all over again when he was offered a scholarship by most of the major college programs out of high school.

They came calling again.

Mitchell chose carefully, he didn’t want to make a Baylor-sized mistake again.
