WACO—Rockdale’s Velma Mitchell was named a fi rst-team North Texas JCAC all-conference selection for McClennan Community College.
The 5-foot-9 sophomore averaged 15.7 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 2.4 steals in Mitchell conference for the 14-14 Highlassies.
Last season, Mitchell was named the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year after averaging a team-leading 17 points, 4 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
She was also first-team all-conference and all-region selection as well as Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Junior/ Community College Coaches’ All-American and NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American.
Mitchell has committed to play basketball for North Texas next season.
Mitchell is a 2015 RHS graduate and the second-leading scorer in school history and was named fi rst-team all-state.
