Eight Rockdale High School records broken at Texas A&M’s Aggie Showdown over the weekend

COLLEGE STATION—Numerous Rockdale High School powerlifters woke up early on Saturday morning to compete at Texas A&M’s Aggie Showdown, Tiger senior Bryce Flowers won a gold medal and earned the “Lifter of the Meet” award.

Fellow RHS senior Kevin Liu also left Brazos County with a first-place finish in his weight class. Second-place finishers for the Blue-and-Gold were Elizabeth Perry and Zeb Skrhak, while Daniel Gardiner, Ashley Gonzales- Reyes, Miles Grear, Ryan Luckey and Shelly Segovia placed third. Lifters ending the day in fifth were Odalys Flores, Anna Harris, Shakira Richards and Georgina Rodriguez.

Eight dif ferent school records were broken by Flowers, Liu and Perry. A squat of 630 pounds by Flowers was enough to break a 10-year old record set by Jamie Czajkowski. Liu broke three of his own school records in the squat (475), bench press (300) and meet total (1,200). Perry broke the most records on the day with a squat of 325, breaking Jena Locklin’s record in 2021. She also shattered her own records in bench press (200), dead lift (310) and meet total (835).

REGIONALS—

In addit ion to a strong turnout in College Station, 13 Lady Tigers officially qualified for the regional meet.

Qualif iers include Har r is, Gonzales-Reyes, Perry, Richards, Rodriguez, Segovia, Lizzie Zinn, Caressa San Miguel, Tatiana Olivares, Shellsea Musto, Jill Eubank and Melody Duran. The Region II meet takes place on Saturday, March 4, at Dublin High School.

With the boys’ regional meet not scheduled until Saturday, March 11, Tiger qualifiers won’t be officially named until at least Thursday, after the boy compete in a last chance qualifier meet in Belton.
