The Rockdale Tiger Athletic Booster Club held their 12th annual golf tournament and crawfish boil on Saturday at the Rockdale Country Club and raised more than $9,000 that will go towards equipment, events and scholarships for Rockdale athletes.

“It’s one of our bigger fundraisers,” said Jeff Miller, RHS head football coach and athletic director. “What’s neat about it is that a lot of the people who played have been in all twelve tournaments. It’s a great get together for a lot of people and every dime goes back to the kids and it’s great anytime we have a chance to do that.”

There were 11 teams in this year’s tournament and the squad that won it all was Team #5 with Homer Mowdy, Joe Cleveland, Gerald Morton, Billy Galbreath and John Magee. The runner up was Team #2 which consisted of Miller, Jeff King, Randall Carpenter, Trey Young and Thomas Croft. Third place went to Team #9 with Clayton Bland, Justin Breithaupt, Pete Magre, Brian Jones, Jeff Turner and Bud Houston.

The award for closest shot to the pin went to both Cruz Reyes and Scott Skubal. Reyes won a dozen golf balls and Skubal won a Visa gift card donated by Rockdale Country Ford. Rodney Barcak also won golf balls donated by Milam County Farm Bureau’s Tanner Banks for hitting the straightest drive. Richard Towns also won a Visa gift card from Country Ford for the best putt.

Following the tournament, boosters auctioned off nine items. Dale Steele took home three jars of pickles from Willie and Pat Barcak and a Modelo golf bag and Rockdale Tiger shirt donated by Colby Fisher. Floyd Byrd bought free rounds of golf at the Brenham Golf Club and apple pie donated by Alton Fields. Randall Carpenter originally bought the pie but donated it back to be re-auctioned. Russell Caffey bought a hundred-dollar gift certificate to Brett’s Backyard BBQ and Spencer Bounds bought a $125 gift certificated for tint and detail from Platinum Motor Sales and Credit. Rickey Gerren bought four rounds of golf from the Wildflower Country Club in Temple, Scott Skubal bought a jar of peanut brittle donated by Paul and Rita Johnson and Bud Houston bought a four-pound link sausage and two-pound pan sausage donated by Victor and Vicky Svetlik.
