Not too long ago, somebody came into
office telling us about how big the paper used to be. Please don’t do that. Back when the paper used to be that big, our main competitor was probably The Cameron Herald. Nowadays, we have to compete with Google and Facebook in order to sell advertisements, which determines the amount of space Kyle and I have to work with. I understand people wanting more to read, but maybe just think about why the paper might be smaller than it used to be. Times change, circumstances change. —wt—
I made the mistake of watching the University of Texas football game on Saturday. If you know...you know. —wt—

The last time I used this space to complain, one of the things that I wrote was misinterpreted. When asking the school to not cut the athletic trainer program, I finished it with “the last thing kids at RHS need is even less outlets”—which, yes, sounds horrible—and if I worked for the school, I would more than likely take offense to that. But I was talking about kids not having a lot to do around Rockdale in general. I should’ve been more careful with my words, because I cringed when I re-read it after I hearing people were upset and totally understand why. —wt—
KDFW reported earlier this month that Dallas is the top city “for cheaters” in the U.S. Fort Worth was ranked second. —wt—
For all the people around town that complain about Mexicans and other people from Latin America “taking all of our jobs,” Reuters reported in December 2021 that minimum wage in much of Mexico is the equivalent of $8.07 per day. This comes out to less than $200 per month (if you’re working 24 days). When I lived in Nicaragua, a local tour guide told me that the average Nicaraguan made even less than that. Many people who come here from Latin America aren’t here to take your jobs, they’re here creating a better future for themselves and their families.
