Former Rockdale High School golfer Brady Nelson signed his letter of intent next to his mother Sherri Nelson (left) and sister Kaybee Nelson (right) to continue to his golf career at Howard Payne University in Brownwood this fall.

“It’s crazy how I ended up there,” Nelson said. “Coach Ethan Noel from started e-mailing me letting me know he’d like to have me at Howard Payne.

“It was kind of below the radar and we eventually stopped talking. But a couple months later he messaged me again and after I got back to him we talked on the phone and he said I should really check the school out. After that visit, I was sold. I’m really happy I’m going to get a chance to keep playing golf.”

Nelson’s mother was also happy for her son.

“What do I say?” said Sherri Nelson, as she held back tears of joy. “This is what he’s dreamed of and he’s going to doing something he really loves.”

Nelson was a four-year letterman for the Tiger golf team and reached the state tournament twice and regionals all four years.
