Although the Rockdale Tiger soccer team began the new decade with a 4-1 loss to Robinson, the Tigers almost certainly won best-dressed during Friday’s game.

For the first time this season, they were sporting their new uniforms.

“Originally, I just wanted to get an alternate uniform for us,” said Gilberto Rodriguez, RHS soccer coach. “Something to change it up kind of like how the football team wears the gray jersey every now and then. “When I went to Coach Miller about it, he told me just to order a new set. So, we ended up re creating the logo and making a design. I love them. I think the white one is crispy clean.”

Rodriguez said they got the new threads at the beginning of the season, but since they started the year with a much higher than anticipated number of players, he decided to wait until the end of the scrimmage portion of their schedule to show off the new jerseys.

The Lady Tiger soccer team also got new jerseys and played their first game in them on Tuesday after press time.

LAST WEEK–In the Tigers’ loss to Robinson, they were down 2-0 early in the half and 4-0 before a late goal by Joan Pacheco.

Rodriguez was puzzled by the way his team played.

“It seemed like we were walking down the field from start to end,” He said. “By the time we all got down there, they had already taken three shots.

“In reality, the energy wasn’t there and Robinson was a good team. But, I thought they were like Waco Connally, a team we beat. We were there physically, but not mentally. We’re going to get it straight though, we’ll get back to working hard.”

Due to Lady Tiger coach Kaitlyn Brinkley being out of town, Rodriguez was also tasked with coaching the girls team as well.

The young squad fell to a playoff-caliber Robinson 11-0 on Friday afternoon.

“It’s hard with them because so many of those girls have never played before,” he said. “But they get down in the first half and in the second they always come back playing strong.”

The girls were also without sophomore goalie Yarely Navarro.

THIS WEEK–Both RHS soccer teams played in Giddings on Tuesday after press time and do not have games scheduled Friday.

They will return to Tiger Stadium this Tuesday to face Florence.

The Lady Tigers start at 5 p.m., and the Tigers follow at seven.
