The Thorndale Bulldogs maintained their status at the No. 1 team in Class 2A with a couple of decisive run-rule wins in district play.
The Bulldogs improved to 15-3-1 on the season and 5-0 in league play.
“We had two great pitching and defensive outings the last two games out,” said Thorndale Coach Kelly Kuhl. “We have also been able to score some runs to allow those guys to relax a little.”
Six runs in the fi fth inning led Thorndale past Rosebud-Lott 11-1 on Saturday.
The Bulldogs big bats in the inning were led by singles by Logan Fisher and Coleby Driver and a double by Ashton Albert.
Thorndale got things moving in the fi rst inning, when Albert hit a solo homer.
Driver took the win for Thorndale, going fi ve innings, allowing one run on two hits, striking out nine and walking zero.
The Bulldogs socked two home runs on the day, Albert’s in the fi rst inning and Corey Preusse put one out in the third inning.
Thorndale had ten hits in the game. Albert and Ashton Schaefer each collected multiple hits and Albert went 3-for-4 at the plate.
Collin Taylor was perfect on the mound as he led the Bulldogs past Milano 20-0 on Tuesday.
Taylor struck out 12 batters in fi ve innings.
Thorndale notched eight runs in the fourth innings, driven by singles by Scott Guzman and Albert, doubles by Braeden Lenzand Logan Fisher, and a triple by Ty Kovar.
Thorndale totaled 13 hits as Guzman and Fisher each racked up multiple hits with Guzman racking up three hits in four at bats.
Lady Dogs
The No. 2 ranked Lady Dogs also took the economical way out with a 15-0 victory over Holland to move to 15-1-1 on the season and 7-0 in district action.
Thorndale has outscored its district competition 98-2.
Madison Kelm led the Lady Dogs to victory driving in six runs.
Kelm started up the Lady Dogs offense and she drove in two in the fi rst inning.
The Lady Dogs notched seven runs during the fourth inning with singles from Martinka and Flores, a sac fl y by Riley White and a three-run home run by Kelm.
Riley White tossed a no hitter, struck out eight, and walked one.
The Lady Dogs had a total of 13 hits.
Bailey White, Jayci Martinka, Kelm, Maddie Flores, and Allison Betak, all collected multiple hits.
Riley White, Jordyn Bigan, and Hannah Laurence each had a hit.
