CARDINALS 56, TIGERS 8
Body

CEDAR CREEK— Columbus was very business- like on Friday night. The Cardinals have not been generous or gracious to anyone all year so why would the Tigers be the exception? The final score of the last game of the season for the Tigers was Columbus 56, Rockdale 8.

It was cold sitting in the bleachers last week and the fans were constantly dusted with precipitation. Watching your team lose is never any fun and when you are cold and wet it’s even less fun. We are thankful however that we are part of the Tiger Nation and our team has played with grit all year long and we are glad they got one more game to extend their season.

Columbus, who is undefeated and the number one team in the state, put 21 points on the scoreboard in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Cardinals put up another 14 and the score at halftime was a heartbreaking 35-0.

The Tigers have been a second-half team all year long so there was some anticipation that Big Blue would press reset and change their side of the scoreboard quickly in the third quarter. The Blue & Gold did not let us down.

Sophomore standout De’Andre Stephens pulled in a 41-yard pass reception thrown by senior quarterback Blaydn Barcak for the first and only Tiger touchdown of the night. Barcak then punched his way into the end zone for the twopoint conversion and the Tigers were on the scoreboard. The score early in the third quarter was Cardinals 35, Tigers 8.

The stands were pretty quiet as the Cardinals scored three more times in the third quarter. The score at the end of the third quarter was 56-8. Both Rockdale and Columbus stayed out of the end zone in the final quarter of this contest and the final score was Columbus 56, Rockdale 8.

There were some school records broken in this game like the record for single game pass attempts but that was indicative of the night the Tigers were having. Don’t be misled, our team showed up to play; they were just outmatched.

When asked about his take on this game and the season Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Hunter Hamrick shared, “We need to recharge, regroup, get on the same page with a few things. I’m glad Alex Cooper had a good night, Sawyer Chalk had I think seven receptions for 70-plus yards. Carson Eoff got an interception. It was tough on our seniors to end their year like this. Columbus is the real deal.”
