Despite allowing seven runs in the fifthinning, Thorndale Bulldogs Varsity defeated Bartlett 10-7 on Tuesday to remain perfect in District 27-2A.

The No. 1 ranked Bulldogs improved to 22-3-1 and 10-0 in league play.

“We gave away too many opportunities tonight,” said Thorndale Coach Kelly Kuhl. “I was proud of our guys for putting up seven runs in the fourth with two outs. Defensively we have to come out and shut them down with a big lead.

“We struggled some and gave up six free bases and they had some timely hits to get back in it. Give credit to Coleby Driver for coming in and stopping the bleeding as well as our defense.”

Both offenses were strong at the plate as Thorndale collected 10 hits and Bartlett four in the high-scoring affair.

The Bulldogs fired up the offense with seven runs in the fourth inning. The offensive firepower was led by Trey Ortiz, Ashton Albert, Coleby Driver, and Ashton Schaefer, all knocking in runs in the inning.

Collin Taylor pitched Thorndale to victory. He surrendered five runs on two hits over four and two-thirds innings, striking out six.

Driver threw two and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen. Driver recorded the last seven outs to earn the save. runs.

Thorndale tallied 10 hits on the day. Albert, Ortiz, and Schaefer each collected multiple hits.

Thorndale got things moving in the first inning, when Albert doubled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run.

The Bulldogs tallied three runs in the fourth inning when Ortiz and Mason Fisher each drove in runs.

Fisher lasted seven innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out eight and walking zero.

Thorndale racked up 12 hits on the day.

Ortiz, Guzman, Driver, Albert and Niemtschk all had multiple hits.

Niemtschk, Albert, Driver, Guzman, and Ortiz each managed two hits each.
