Thorndale handles Rosebud-Lott with big second inning

Coming off a tough run in the competitive Forsan Tournament, the Thorn-dale Bulldogs returned to district play Tuesday night with a 9-1 victory over Rosebud-Lott.

The N0. 1 ranked Bullsogs improved to 13-3-1 overall and 3-0 in district play.

“We have to fi nd a way to close the game earlier,” said Thorndale Coach Kelly Kuhl. “We left 11 on base and eight of those were in scoring position. We did some silly things that kept us from ending it early as well.

Six runs in the second inning led Thorndale past Rosebud-Lott as its offense in the inning came from a walk by Trey Ortiz, a single by Ashton Schaefer, an error on a ball put in play by Coleby Driver, and a double by Ashton Albert.

Logan Fisher pitched the Bulldogs to victory, allowing four hits and no runs over four innings, striking out eight and walking one. Ortiz threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.

Driver—hitting .478 on the season with 16 RBIand Albert each racked up multiple hits for Thorn-dale. Albert and Driver all had two hits to lead the Bulldogs.

In the Forson Tournament over the weekend, the Bulldogs went 3-2, including a victory over the host.

Thorndale defeated McCamey 23-1, Coahoma 22-1, Forsan 11-3 while falling to Edgewood 15-3 and Reagan County 6-2.

“Forsan was good for us. We got a lot of baseball in and hopefully got rid of some cob webs,” said Kuhl. “We hurt ourselves in our two losses by playing sloppy defense. I was proud of the way we hit the ball and pitched but our defense has to get better.”

White leads Lady Dogs

The No. 2 ranked Lady Dogs blanked Rosebud-Lott 15-0 Tuesday night at home.

Thorndale improves to 14-1-1 on the season and 6-0 in District 25-2A.

Riley White paved the way with three hits and four runs batted in while also logging the win on the mound in four innings of work with eight strikeouts.

Jayci Martinka added three hits and two runs batted in, while Madison Flores knocked in two runs.
