Thursday night was the night to recognize the best of the best student-athletes of Rockdale High School for their talent, hard work, sportsmanship and contributions to community and team at the 2023 Spring Athletic Banquet.
Here are the winners of some of the awards presented last week.
• The Joe Wayne Cleveland Tiger Pride Award
is presented to the athletes who best exemplify pride in school, community, and being a Rockdale Tiger and Lady Tiger.
This year’s awardees are Tatiana Olivares and Miles Grear. This is the second consecutive year Tatiana has been recognized with this award.
• The Jay Bob Roe Most Courageous Award is presented to the athletes that exhibit the will to overcome adversities to perform beyond their potential.
The honors went to Cade Pantaleon and T’niyah Miles.
• The Dan Yezak Most Conscientious Award
is given to the athletes that are willing to sacrifice everything for the success of the team.
This year’s winners are Isaiah Sauls and Ciara Miles.
The athletes who best demonstrate sportsmanship through competition are given the Sportsman Award. The 2022-2023 recipients are Ivan Bonner III and Alyzza Varela.

• Football MVP— Gerren Marrero.
• Football Offensive Player of the Year— Blaydn Barcak.
• Football Defensive Player of the Year— Cade Pantaleon.
• Volleyball MVP— Yolianna Castillo.
• Volleyball Heart Award— Georgia Woodard.
• Cross Country Male MVP— Jesus Bocanegra.
• Cross Country Female MVP— Ciara Miles.
• Golf Male MVP— Mason Lillard, Monte Taylor.
• Golf Female MVP— Molly Moody.
• Track Male MVP— Aiden Hirt.
• Track Female MVP— Ciara Miles.
• Powerlifting Male MVP— Bryce Flowers.
• Powerlifting Female MVP— Elizabeth Perry.
• Soccer Male MVP— Riley Spears.
• Soccer Female MVP— Marisa Hernandez.
• Tennis Male Player of the Year— Brody Willard, Mason Lillard.
• Tennis Female Player of the Year— Julie Bartsch, Yolianna Castillo.
