The Rockdale Tigers historic baseball season came to an end last week when the Orangefield Bobcats—in a very business-like way—beat the Tigers on both Wednesday and Thursday.

The series took place at the Cypress Woods High School. The facility was great and the weather was good.

GAME ONE— On paper it looked like the Blue & Gold should have won game one.

Mario Casarez was the starting pitcher and he only gave up four hits over five innings, compared to the Bobcats starter who gave up eight hits—the difference was obviously in the number of runs scored.

For the record Casarez struck out four, walked two and gave up four runs, only two that were earned. Layton Mogford and fearless Brody Willard each had two hits, Cruz San Miguel went one for three with an RBI.

This game ended with a 4-1 final score.

GAME TWO— The loss in game one set up a mustwin situation in game two of the series. It was faint but you could hear the 1970’s band Bachman Turner Overdrive playing, “Taking care of business.”

The Tigers, who have been so good all year and confident, just looked off in this error-filled game and the Bobcats seemed to be dressed for success.

Solid Mason Willard was the starting pitcher and he took the loss, going six innings, giving up 10 hits, eight runs—only two that were earned. He had five strikeouts and walked two.

Layton Mogford went two for four at the plate and had two RBIs.

WRAP UP— Former Tiger and Head Baseball Coach Austin Caffey wrapped up the season by saying, “I’m really proud of all that this group achieved this year. From the beginning of the season to the end they showed up and worked hard to get better both individually and as a team.”

“You always want to be the last team standing at the end of the season, but unfortunately we came up a little short,” he added. “Despite that, these guys made Rockdale baseball history. I’m extremely grateful for the seniors and having the opportunity to coach them these last two years. They helped lay a solid foundation for the future of our program.”

Like they say, “Any team can beat any team on any given day.” If the Tigers played today they would probably win. We had great talent, great coaching and great fan support. Tiger Nation owes a debt of gratitude to this team that ended the school year on a positive note.

Big Blue took us on an exciting ride that ended with a Tiger best ever 25-10-1 overall record. Thank you Tigers!
