Grant Sherrod Pierre, of Hutto, was awarded a fellowship by the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center with the El Paso Family and Community Medicine Sports Medicine Fellowship Program in El Paso.
He graduated from the University of Texas Medical Branch Residency Program in Family Medicine on June 29 in Galveston Texas.
Pierre is the grandson of the late Hinton and Flora Mack of Rockdale and the cousin of Margaret Green and Johnnie Banks. He is the son of Flora Janette Mack Pierre of Temple and Jean Nicol Pierre of Austin.
Pierre is the first African American to be awarded a fellowship in El Paso.
TTUHSC El Paso primary care sports medicine fellowship strives to create an educational experience in sports medicine that will enrich fellows in the many facets of caring for athletes. Fellows will develop skills, knowledge, and proficiency in the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports-related injuries and illnesses.
Pierre received a doctor of medicine degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Texas in 2016. He is a 2012 graduate of Prairie View A&M University and 2008 graduate of Hutto High School.
