For the third time this season, RHS sophomore Emma Whitsel won both the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles, taking the former with a time of 16.04, beating out competitors from Giddings and Brenham.

In the 300, she beat out Daisha Denson from Caldwell with a 48.87.

Whitsel wasn’t the only Lady Tiger to have success at the Caldwell meet. Julie Bartsch placed second in the shot put and earned a bronze in the discus and Taylor Delz placed third in the 400-meter run.

Delz was also a part of a bronze medal mile relay team that ran a 4:32.60 with Ciara Miles, Hailey Webb and her older sister Hannah Delz.

TIGERS—The top performers for the boys were Jesus Bocanegra, who won gold in the mile with a time of 4:52.21. This was the first time the ninth grader has run a sub-five minute mile ever in his RHS track career.

Senior and 2019 regional qualifier Ty Mayberry placed second in the shot put with a 45-10.5.

This is the second meet that Mayberry has competed in after being quarantined during the first two meets.

Albert Silva placed finishing sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.05.

Rockdale was without their sprint and 4x200-meter relay team in Caldwell, but head coach Lewis Edmonson expects to have them back in full force for the District 19-3A meet which is this Wednesday (April 7th), at Tiger Stadium.

“This part of the season has been steady and moving slow it seems like,” Edmonson said. “But once district hits, it’s going to be week after week after week with district, area, regionals. We just have to focus on being one of the top four teams from here on out.”

Area is scheduled for Thursday, April 15, in Crockett and the regional meet is scheduled for April 23-24 at Waco’s Midway High School. The state track meet is scheduled for May 7. at Austin’s Mike A. Meyers Stadium.
