Rockdale Tigers wide receiver/defensive back Kesean Raven made a verbal commitment to Sam Houston State University on Friday via Twitter.

“Sam Houston State was the best decision for me because it’s closer for my mom to attend the games,” Raven said. “They were heavily recruiting me from the jump and always showed a tremendous amount of love towards me. The offense fits my skill set because they like to throw the ball and let players go make plays.”

Rated a three-star prospect by 247sports.com, a recruiting website, Raven chose the Bearkats over seven other scholarship offers including Arkansas, Southern Mississippi and New Mexico.

The 5-foot 10-inch, 160-pound senior has done it all for the Tigers this season. He’s recorded 551 receiving yards, 206 rushing yards, 28 tackles, four interceptions and 17 total touchdowns.

Raven says he wants to continue to be a part of the winning culture at Sam Houston State.

“My expectations when I arrive on campus are to build a strong bond with my coaches and teammates,” Raven said. “I want to be a part of a team that loves to work hard and be the best there is.” Raven is rated as the No.

Raven is rated as the No. 260 wide receiver in the country and No. 268 player in Texas, according to 247sports.com

“I’m just so happy for him,” RHS Head Coach Jacob Campsey said. “He’s done so much for our program ever since he was a freshman. Kesean shows up and works hard every day. He’s going to be lights out for Sam Houston State.”

Raven is now the top recruit in the Bearkats 2021 recruiting class. He will eligible to sign his letter of intent during the early signing period of Dec. 18-20.
