On Thursday, it was announced that Rockdale High School will stay in District 11-3A-I with many of the same faces including Cameron, Academy, Lorena, McGregor and Troy but lose Caldwell, who moved back up to Class 4A-II and gained Franklin, who is back again after a two-year stint in Class 3A-II.

In addition to sharing a district with power Cameron and rising Academy, Lorena and Franklin both won state titles this past December, with the Leopards taking the Class 3A-I title over Brock and Franklin claiming their first title in school history in a win over Gunter for the Class 3A-II trophy.

Since 2018, the seven teams in the new 11-3A-I have won a total of 34 out of 52 playoff games. For perspective, the other 19 squads in Region III won a total of 38 out of 83 playoff games during that time.

“It’s just going to make for good football every Friday night,” RHS head coach Jacob Campsey told KRXT last week. “I was talking with someone earlier and I really think whoever gets fifth and sixth in our district would probably be a playoff team in any other district.”

SCHEDULE—Rockdale also released their 2022 football schedule on social media late last week.

This fall’s slate includes some familiar names in non-district play including Taylor, who the Blue-and-Gold will face for the 88th time in school history. As of October’s UIL enrollment snapshot, THS has 605 more students than Rockdale High School. RHS recorded an enrollment of 421. The Tigers also host Lexington again, marking the seventh straight meeting between Rockdale and their Lee County neighbors.

Rockdale’s non-district schedule also includes two teams the Tigers aren’t used to playing as frequently.

RHS heads to Teague in their season opener on Aug. 25. The last time the two teams played was in the 2017 regional finals when the Blue-and-Gold beat the Lions 42-20 en route to a state title. Teague is under the direction of Zach Linscomb, who was an assistant under Robbie Clark at RHS during the 2004 and 2005 seasons.

In their final game before district play begins, Rockdale will face off with 2020 state champion Tuscola Jim Ned on Sept. 16.

Due to the west Texas school being located more than 230 miles away, the Tigers will face them at a neutral site that has yet to be determined.

The Tigers will also scrimmage Jarrell and Robinson prior to their season opener.
