With college football recruiting beginning to heat up, RHS wide receiver Anthony Dansby is getting noticed by college coaches.
In the past three weeks, Dansby has received offers from Eastern New Mexico University, Kansas Wesleyan and McPherson College in Kansas. These offers add to a growing list that includes: Point University in Georgia, Monmouth College, Culver Stockton University and Otterbein University in Ohio.
“Getting these offers means a lot to me,” Dansby said. “It’s nice to know that people are out there watching me and paying attention to my game. It’s cool that my talents are finally starting to get noticed.”
This past football season, Dansby had his best year with the Tigers making 36 catches for 665 yards and six touchdowns.
Dansby created big plays for the Tigers as he averaged 18.5 yards per catch.
His outstanding performance resulted in recognition as a Division I District 11 second-team all-district selection.
At 6-foot 4-inches and having great speed, Dansby says he knows he has the potential to bust a big play every time the ball enters his hands.
“I feel I’m a big threat as a wide receiver,” Dansby said. “Every throw that’s one-on-one I feel like I’m going to win. I’m very confident in myself, and I don’t feel like anybody can hold me out there.”
Dansby said he enjoys football and does everything within his power for his team to get the victory.
“I love everything about football. It’s my passion,” Dansby said. “When I’m out on the field, the first thing on my mind is winning the game. But in general, I just like to go out there and have fun.”
Dansby said that his coaches, teammates and the entire Rockdale community have helped mold him as a player and as a young man.
“Everyone has helped me realize that I have to be a leader and role model,” Dansby said. “I’ve realized I have to set a good example for the kids who are under me. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about.”
Due to COVID-19, Dansby hasn’t been allowed to take official visits this season.
He made his first official visit to the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor on Dec 5.
“It’s been kind of tough,” Dansby said. “I would like to visit each school but I feel that everything will work out.”
Dansby says he hopes to be remembered at RHS not only for his athletic ability but for being a great teammate as well.
“I want to be remembered as not only a kid that could catch every pass and jump out of the gym but also as a good person with a good heart who cared about his family, friends, teammates and others around me,” Dansby said.
“Dansby is a competitor,” RHS Head Football Coach Jacob Campsey said. “He barely came off the field for us this season unless we pulled him off. His combination of size and speed makes him very hard to cover. He’s very versatile, and I expect him to be used in different ways during his college career. ”
Dansby has decided to hold his decision to sign until the late signing day period in February.
