Rockdale High School boys track coach Lewis Edmonson brought five members of his relay teams to the Adcock Gobblers Relays in Cuero on Saturday.

“That was the best we’ve run all year,” Edmonson said. “We definitely rose up for the challenge.

“In our sprint relay we were a good handoff away from beating Goliad and also a good handoff from beating them in the four-by-two.”

In the sprint relay, Cam’Ron Valdez, Kesean Raven, Levi Baggerly and Will Storey finished with a time of 43.48, right behind first place Goliad, who finished with a 43.25.

In the 4x200-meter relay, Valdez, Raven, Storey and Qua’ Shawn Crawford also finished second behind Goliad with a time of 1:31.98 behind the South Texas squad’s 1:30.20.

Valdez, Raven, Baggerly and Storey also ran in the mile relay, finishing fifth with a time of 3:40.43.

“Our guys knew going into the race that we had to go into it very seriously,” Edmonson said. “We knew we couldn’t approach it in a nonchalant way.

“Some of our guys were wondering how it would go against East Bernard in the four-by-two just because their times have been really good. But I think some of their past meets have had self-timers instead of having computer timing, which means their times might not be completely accurate. Because of that, I told them to focus more on how they race.”

The sprint relay and four-by-two teams will run Friday and Saturday at the 92nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.

“This will be the best meet we run in this year, including the state meet” Edmonson said. “You get to see the best talent from class 1A through 4A.”

Storey competes in the 100-meter dash at 1:30 p.m., on Friday and runs with the four-by-two squad at a scheduled time of 2. The sprint relay is scheduled to compete on Saturday morning at 9 a.m. The meet will take place at Mike A. Myers Track and Soccer Stadium in Austin. The address for the stadium is 707 Clyde Little-field Dr., Austin, Tex., 78705. General admission tickets can be bought at the stadium for $15 for both days or $10 for one day.

LEXINGTON—On Thursday, Tiger and Lady Tiger athletes went to Eagle Stadium to compete in the Lexington Relays. In the final race of the meet, the mile relay team of Baggerly, Crawford, Quentin Hughes and Jace Robinson beat out Caldwell for second place by three-tenths of a second with a time of 3:44.50. The team lost to fellow district-mate Rogers, who beat the Tigers with a time of 3:31.90.

Earlier in the day, Ty Mayberry placed second in the shot put with a throw of ‘46-0 1/2” and Baggerly placed third in the triple jump with a ‘42-5”.

“I’m proud of how we competed in Lexington,” said Brian Thomas, Rock-dale High School girls head track coach. “We showed up and gave it our all.

“We’re also showing tremendous improvements in multiple events.”

Both Rockdale track teams will compete on Thursday at the Happy Skrabanek Relays in Caldwell.
