RHS varsity boys relay teams put their dominance on full display sweeping the Happy Shrabanek Relays at Caldwell High School last Friday.
The 4x100-meter, 4x200 and 4x400 relays won their respective races and the team brought home three more golds in the 100-meter, 200-meter dashes and long jump events.
“I tell the guys don’t take anything for granted,” said Coach Lewis Edmonson. “We have to be at our best no matter what the situation is.”
The 4x100M team consisting of Cameron Valdez, Kesean Raven, Quashawn Crawford and Jabez Dunn smoked their compettion by nearly a second and a half running a 44.13. Elgin came in second with 45.55.
The team also have the the second best time in the in the state, and look poised to make a deep run this year.
The 4x200M relay team, with Levi Baggerly replacing Dunn, also put on a dominant performancing by running a 1:31.66. The Tigers controlled the race by such a wide margin that the second place Elgin Wildcats didn’t finish until six seconds later.
The 4x400M completed the relay sweep at the meet. When the team of Baggerly, Kobe Mitchell, Anthony Dansby and Ethen Hughes finished with a time of 3:42.0o six seconds faster than second place Elgin.
The relays were not the only bright spots for the Tigers. Both Dunn and Crawford placed first in the looM and 2ooM dashes respectively and broke their own personal best records. Baggerly also took home the gold palcing first in the triple with a jump of 4o-feet, 3-inches and Mitchell captured third place in the same event. ‘Iy Mayberry earned a bronze medal in the shot put as well.
RHS boys and girls teams placed third in the meet overall.
LADY TIGERS—In addition to their third place team finish, the girls varsity track team also took home some hardware from the Caldwell meet. Emma Whistel claimed first place in the looM hurdle and third in the high jump.
Taytum Young won first place in the pole vault and Saige Robinson came in second.
The 4x200M relay team consisting of Saige Robertson, Karli Marburger, Young and Kiley Moore finished in third place.
JUNIOR VARSITY— For the boys junior varsity team, the relay teams also monopolized their events.
The 4x200M and 4x400M relays of Scott Penny, Alec Silve, Jose Castillo and Robert Owens finished first in both races. The 4xlooM relay team with Tristian Galvan replacing Penny came in second place. Angel Castillo finished third in both the 800M and i600M races. The boys finished the meet in third place.
The junior varsity girls had three first place finishes of their own.
Taylor Deiz won the gold in the 400M dash. Jadira Luna finished first in the triple jump and third in the 200M dash.
Yolianna Castillo finished first in the pole vault and Alyssa Thompson took second. The girls team finished third overall.
