On Friday evening, the Rockdale Tiger basketball team held an alumni game and threepoint competition to kick off the 2021-22 season.

Tiger head coach Marcus McNeil spoke highly of the event.

“It was a good way to have a live scrimmage,” said McNeil, who is entering his third year as the RHS basketball coach. “We scrimmaged with Flatonia a few days before but we didn’t have everybody.

“It was also a great way to build some camaraderie. We had former players like Lance Loewe there, who has the highest three-point shot percentage in school history playing and I got to talk with him and about his dad (Dusty) who coached here for a long time. We also ended the evening with everyone putting their hands in and saying Tigers on three.”

The current Tigers beat the alumni and Tiger junior Ivan Bonner won the “Noth’n but Net 3-Point Contest”.

Rockdale played in their first official game at home against Bartlett Tuesday morning after this week’s press time.

The Blue-and-Gold return to action Tuesday, Nov. 30, when they face Troy at Tiger Gymnasium.

Junior varsity starts at 5 p.m., with the varsity playing right after.
