In June, Rockdale’s Morgan Laughlin announced via Facebook that she was named the head volleyball coach at Florence High School.
“I’m super excited to get started in Florence,” she said. “I’ve seen the potential in these girls over the past couple of years in previous coaching positions.”
“When I saw the volleyball job posted, applying was something I couldn’t pass up,” she added.
Laughlin later interviewed for the vacancy with FISD athletic director Drew Bridges, where she knew that Florence would be the perfect place for a fresh start.
Although FHS finished last in District 19-3A in fall of 2020, the former Lady Tiger says her goal is to guide the Williamson County school to the post-season, something they haven’t done in more than a decade.
“These girls have the drive to achieve great things,” she said. “They really want it this year and have been putting in the work during our strength and conditioning camps.”
“Even after knowing them for a couple of months, I have no doubt they can reach any goal we set,” Laughlin said.
She takes over the Lady Buffs after one season in Cameron, where she was in her first year as a head coach.
The 2014 Rockdale High School graduate has also coached at Somerville and Thorndale, in addition to Cameron. She is a 2018 graduate of Sam Houston State University and is in the process of earning a graduate degree from Texas Tech University.
