Rockdale High School is doing things a little different this year concerning a “sports banquet” which is really a smart move.
You may have noticed the school’s athletic department has upped their game on social media and they do a great job of keeping us informed about what is happening with all our Tiger teams.
The annual awards, which are decided by a committee of coaches, are being announced online. This year’s recipients, so far, are:
• Male Athlete of the Year— Jesus Bocanegra. He runs cross country and track, plays soccer and baseball.
• Female Athlete of the Year— Ciara Miles. She plays volleyball and basketball and runs track.
• Male Sportsman of the Year— Riley Spears. He plays football and soccer.
• Female Sportsman of the Year— Macy McDaniel. She plays volleyball and basketball.
• The Joe Wayne Cleveland Award— male athlete Mason Willard and female athlete Ashley Gonzales. This award goes to a student athlete that best exemplifies pride in school, in the community and in being a Rockdale Tiger or Lady Tiger.
• The Dan Yezak Award— T’Niyah Miles, Isaiah Sauls and Izabella Delga-dillo. This award goes to the most conscientious athletes who are willing to make sacrifices to ensure success of the team.
• The Jay Bob Roe Award— Alli Lay and Layton Mogford. This award is given to those who overcome adversity in order to play at their greatest potential.
Congratulations to each of these student athletes for their hard work and it’s nice they can be recognized for what they have done on and off the field.
(Further award winners will be listed in next week’s Reporter.)
