The RHS Boys Cross Country team earned first place in the Triangular Cross-Country Meet in Cameron on Saturday. The girls team had a great showing also, with five runners finishing in the top 15 places.

The meet featured the Cameron Yoe, Milano Eagles and Rockdale Tigers. Both the girls’ and boys’ teams were required to run two miles for their races.

For the boys’ team, Jesus Bocanegra finished in second with a time of 11:22. Chris Perez finished in fourth place at 11:31. Jose Tenorio finished in fifth at 11:46. Cristo Hernandez finished in sixth at 11:53. Yovanney Delgadillo finished in seventh place at 11:56 and Diego Garza finished in 14th at 15:32.

For the girls’ team, Taytum Young finished in sixth place with a time of 15:06. Jesenia Navarro finished in seventh place at 15:29. Alize Llanas finished in ninth at 16:21. Mariana Casarez finished in 11th place at 17:14 and Katia Hernandez finished in 15th at 20:18.

RHS Head Coach Cheryl Meuth was very impressed with the way her team performed this past weekend.

“Both teams represented Rockdale well,” Meuth said. “The boys were the highlight with their first win of the season. It was awesome watching them finish as they held out from letting any other runner between our 4th-7th place finish in the top 10.”

“On the girl’s side I couldn’t be prouder of the growth they are showing this season,” she said. “Three years ago, we were finishing towards the back at most meets as a team, and this group is definitely growing in the right direction.”

The team will look to keep their momentum going as they will compete in the Cameron Invitational Meet on Saturday.
